Andrea's Photography Blog
I have grown so much as a photographer throughout these 12 weeks of class with Mr. Bush. Notes were not always fun but I definitely took something away from them. When I first walked into the classroom, I was barely capable of taking photos of my family on vacations. Okay, maybe that's a bit of a stretch. I was a decent photographer. When someone needed a photo, they asked me. I loved taking photos but I didn't know exactly what I was getting myself into. So I relaxed my shoulders and took a couple more steps into my seat. During this class, I learned how a camera worked and how to manipulate the camera to do exactly what I wanted it to do. It was finally time for my first few photo assignments. I came back from the short weekend with some crappy photos. I shot for nature for my first assignment which has always been my strong side. But photo assignment number two was awful. I shot for still life and I got some horrifying results: I was definitely not proud of what I has captured. And from that moment on, I decided I would do everything in my power to become the most amazing photographer that I could be. Now, I have improved a lot. From what my subject is to how I portray that subject. I see deeper than just the surface of the photo. I see the moment, the instant, when it happened. All my photos have stories behind them that can make me smile. Some of my few best photos are shown below. I am proud of my progress and growth as a photographer. Having an amazing teacher definitely played a bit part in my development. I will continue to take pictures and I will continue to improve.
I'm really glad that I took this class because I learned far more than composition and aperture. I learned how to be my own person and I learned that everything can't be done with one try. I learned that there's more to a photo than the final image. There's a story. There is always a story.

For this assignment, we could choose between finding our own Photoshop tutorial to create whatever we wanted, or we could do the step-by-step instructed multiple me assignment. I chose to use my creative side and go with the Open Photoshop Assignment. The double exposure part was easier than I thought. It was also really fun to make. I didn't use the photos provided by the tutorial. I chose my own and created this. I'm proud of my work because this was my first attempt at double exposure.
For this photo, I didn't do much editing other than lowering the exposure and brightening up the whites and highlights. For my final photo assignment, I chose to shoot my sister. She made a lot of funny faces and burped a couple of unwanted times. She couldn't stop smiling and laughing. I had my mom hold a flashlight to the left of the camera to provide some more light. I had a lot of fun shooting and I think this was a good way to end my photo assignments.
During this assignment I learned two different type of portrait lighting. Window lighting and 3-point lighting. We were given the task to take a bunch of photos for each and then to choose the best two. This was also a photoshop assignment. We worked to make frames around the two photos without specific instructions. At first this was hard for me but I started to get the hang of it. This was my result:
My best photo I shot was the strawberries. And not because they're my favorite fruit but because I loved how the color really popped and how the light hit the red and bounced off. For this photo, all I did was increase the darkness of the shadows to give the plain fruits a little bit more depth. For this assignment, I was at a tennis tournament and was very limited with my options. That's when I decided to go to the grocery store and take pictures of food. In some places of the store the lighting was awful. So I had my mom shine a flashlight. We walked around with a camera and a flashlight and we totally got some weird looks. But it was a lot of fun. For editing my photos, all I did was brighten them up with the exposure and I increased the saturation to make the colors of the fruits and vegetables brighter.
In this assignment, our mission was to take three or more photos with an overlap of about 30-40%. Then, we would composite them together in Photoshop to create a panoramic picture. I struggled a little bit with creativity within the school. That's when I took my camera home and shot some outdoor night photos. This was really helpful because with a good subject, I really saw what I was capable of.
For this photo, all I did was lower the saturation all the way which changed the image from colorful to black and white. All I did for this photo was shake up a bag of popcorn and I stuck my camera inside. I tried to use flash but that only washed everything out. I chose to shoot black and white for this assignment because that left me with a lot of options for what to shoot. I tried to use the flash on my camera again because I thought it would have shown the contrast more, but all it did was wash the photos out yet again. I discontinued my use of flash for the rest of my shooting.
With this photo, I adjusted the temperature to make it warmer. I also adjusted the exposure and I made the shadows darker. I thought this would make the photo look better. And I was right. I went on a trip to a small town in Indiana for a tennis tournament and my camera tagged along. I shot picture of the small, sweet, Main Street. There were so many cute little shops and a bakery. There were so many people and old couples walking down the sidewalks. They all looked so happy and I can see why.
This was an assignment where we had to change the context of the school using photoshop. At first I didn't know what I should do, but then I decided to go with Photoshopping Bob Ross painting our school. I quickly finished with that and then, with the help of another outside opinion, I decided it wasn't enough. So I got up and walked down to the Commons and took a photo of our giant screen. I wanted to put Bob Ross's show playing in the school on the screen. I used the bottom two pictures and a basic picture of Bob Ross to create my final product. I learned how to use a lot of different tools in Photoshop. I think I have also learned a lot of short cuts that can get me where I need or want to be quicker. I enjoyed this assignment a lot and I hope we do more like it.
I decided not to edit this image because I found that I liked the photo better without any changes. I chose macro for this assignment and my mom went to a flower shop and I decided to follow her around with my camera. I chose only to edit some of the photos because I thought that's how they looked nicer.
